I was commissioned this spring to create an accessible metal tree for the Township of Oro-Medonte’s Art Trees (Art in Public Spaces project part 2). The tree reflects my experience of springtime in Oro-Medonte, and features tactile trilliums, marsh marigolds, and Jack-in-the-pulpit. The title “Spring in Oro-Medonte” is featured in Braille across the top of the sculpture, and a Braille description accompanies the work.
The sculpture is currently exhibited in the Chilton Gallery in Oro-Medonte for a year.
Streets Alive Productions
One of my favourite things to participate in is Orillia’s Streets Alive Productions. I’m happy that these public art events have picked again since COVID restrictions. I made a “Whoville Tree” for the Christmas Season 2021, refreshed my “Tactile Sunflower Door” for last summer, and just finished my Easter Egg for this Easter Season. Sir Sam Society loan
As many of you know, one of the benefits of membership in OMAH’s Sir Sam’s Society is the opportunity to display a select work of art for a year. One of OMAH’s Corporate Sponsor, Lake Country Physiotherapy, selected my painting, “North Shore”. Lake Country’s Chad Watters, OMAH’s Ninette Gyorody, and I hung the painting in the main hall at their Progress Drive location.
The Orillia Museum of Art & History held a Winter Gala on January 21st at The Hawk Ridge Golf Club.
One of my paintings was among the work auctioned off which helped to raise $25,000 for children’s programs and general operating expenses. Raffle winner Susan Waite is now the new owner of “Transference”.
It was a great evening! I really enjoyed meeting the guest speaker, Dr. Rita Shelton-Deverell – and supporting OMAH.
Work is coming along really well for my 2024 accessible art show at OMAH
We have designed a system to allow patrons with low vision/blindness to experience each work by listening to audio descriptions. More detail here

March 2019 – I have 2 pieces currently showing in the Museum of Northern History in Kirkland Lake. One of them – “Canadian Shield #2” was chosen for a Contemporary Art award.

Our Musical Universe show
The University of Toronto Planetarium created a new show geared to people with visual impairments (Our musical universe show for visually impaired). I was fortunate enough to attend a pre-release screening, and to work with the talented Matt Russo, who created it. He asked to use my painting “Myth” that was inspired by the show to use in promotional material. I was also interviewed about the show, and many news outlets have published the article. You can read it on local outlets like Orillia Matters site or Barrie Today as well as a number of national papers. This extraordinary show resonated with me because its use of alternate media to represent the visual world we live in aligns with my use of texture and form to represent how I experience the world.
